Pope launches commission to investigate future female role in Church
Pope Francis has initiated a commission to investigate the role of females within the Church. The 13 member commission, comprised of seven men and six women are focusing on the roles of females as deacons within the Church, opening up a potential historic move for the Catholic Church.
“I believe, yes it would be good for the church to clarify this point,” said Pope Francis. Activists have been vocal for many years in their demands for women to be ordained as priests, and say that this is the first step to rectifying the gender imbalance within the Church. – Samantha Besgrove, Zabrina Potestas, Ariana Norton and Joseph Walz
