The Socceroos have progressed to the next stage of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers after an emphatic 5-1 win over Jordan last night at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium.
Tim Cahill scored a double, while Aaron Mooy, Tom Rogic, and Massimo Luongo also found the net. Jordan notched a late consolation goal after Abdallah Deeb, striking the ball past Mathew Ryan.
Tim Cahill opened the scoring before Melbourne City’s Aaron Mooy doubled Australia’s lead. Cahill then took his international goal tally to 47 with a fine header. Tom Rogic, who has been in stellar form for his Scottish side Celtic, scored the Socceroo’s fourth before Massimo Luongo rounded off the win with Australia’s fifth goal.
Despite the impressive win, Ange Postecoglou’s side was struck with an injury when Robbie Kruse fell victim to a shocking challenge from a Jordanian defender, which surprisingly only resulted in a yellow card. Kruse, who provided three assists in the win, could miss up to three weeks.
