Hawthorn champion Sam Mitchell has dropped a bombshell on the AFL world, declaring he is prepared to be traded to the West Coast Eagles.
Hawthorn is planning to set up a trade that would involve four-time premiership player Sam Mitchell leaving the club and joining West Coast in 2017.
The five-time best-and-fairest winner at Hawthorn is understood to have been offered a coaching component in his one-year playing contract.
Mitchell phoned SEN radio yesterday morning to let the public know of his intentions.
‘’I didn’t go to the club and say I want to go to West Coast…‘Clarko’ (Alastair Clarkson) came over and said, as a friend, ‘is it something you would be interested in?'” said Mitchell.
Mitchell still has Hawthorn in mind, even with his career possibly continuing at another club.
‘’If this goes through because there’s no certainty it will, we look at it as a win for Hawthorn, because it frees up salary space,’’
