The Newsroom recaps the weekend action in the English Premier League.
Liverpool win in Capital One Cup rematch
After losing the Capital One Cup final to Manchester City on Sunday, Liverpool avenged their loss with a 3-0 win against City at Anfield. Adam Lallana opened the scoring for Liverpool with a low drive before James Milner poked in a second against his former team. Roberto Firmino fired home a third to put a major dent in Manchester City’s title hopes.
Chelsea continue impressive form
Chelsea have won their third game in a row, beating Norwich City 2-1 at Carrow Road. Chelsea full-back “Kenedy” (Robert Kenedy Nunes do Nascimento) scored the opener after just 39 seconds of football – the fastest Premier League goal this season. Diego Costa doubled their lead on the brink of halftime, before Nathan Redmond grabbed a consolation goal for the home side. The win for Chelsea sinks Norwich down into the relegation zone, and the Blues now sit seven points behind a European qualification for next season.
Arsenal suffer major blow to title hopes
Arsenal’s hopes of landing their first Premier League title in 12 years suffered a major blow after Swansea came from behind to defeat the Gunners 2-1. Joel Campbell took the lead for Arsenal on the 15th minute mark before Wayne Routledge equalised with a side-footed shot. Swansea captain Ashley Williams found the net for the away side in the 74th minute to give his team the three points. – Anthony Johnston
