In a new report released by the Climate Council, the fire season has increased by 19 per cent since 1980. Amanda McKenzie, from the council, says helicopters, sky cranes and water bombing planes need to be increased.
“The trouble is, as the fire seasons overlap with spring and autumn… it becomes more challenging to draw on our international friends for help. This year is likely to be the hottest year on record, the 39th year of above average global temperature – a long term temperature trend.”
She has also compared Australia’s rising weather temperatures to the United States, where they experienced the worst fire season on record.
Christian hip-hop producer guilty over “pogo stick” murder
Christian hip-hop producer Kodi Maybir was found guilty of the murder of a seven-year-old boy yesterday at the Supreme Court. Maybir showed no reaction at court while relatives of the victim cried in relief. It was found that during Maybir’s six-week trial, he would “punish” the child through repeated acts of violence before murdering him at his recording studio in southern Sydney. The child suffered fatal injuries including severe force trauma to the front and back of the skull. Maybir had initially blamed the child’s death on a pogo stick accident, and told police on May 21; “he’s always on that pogo stick. He just fell off… hit the back of his head.” Maybir’s sentencing will commence on February 19, 2016.
