Melbourne Zoo is Australia’s number one
As well as being named the shopping, food and culture hub of Australia, Melbourne also takes the cake for being the home of Australia’s best zoo. It was voted as Australia’s number one zoo by travellers from around the globe on TripAdvisor, thanks to its spotlight on conservation and continual improvement to enclosures.
Thornbury man injured after stabbing
A 69-year-old man was allegedly stabbed in the stomach by an 80-year-old man in Melbourne’s north-east yesterday. Paramedics were called to the scene outside Northcote Plaza just after 11am. The Thornbury man was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious condition. Police believe the pair were known to each other.
Bird attack victim set to sue council
Eliana Deur-Davidson, 41, is suing the City of Whitehorse over ongoing injuries sustained during an attack by a swooping bird in a Box Hill car park in 2011. Ms Deur-Davidson alleged the attack resulted in a back injury, causing her to quit her job as a youth worker. Ms Deur-Davidson said she has also been sent to hospital three times and had two spinal injections over the past two-and-a-half years. City of Whitehorse general manager of corporate services Peter Smith said the municipality was unable to comment as it is a legal matter.
Critically injured baby flown to hospital
A nine-month old baby was flown to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a critical condition on Tuesday afternoon. Police were called to a home in Melbourne’s west by paramedics, who found the baby unconscious at 10:15am. A young couple who neighbours say were not the baby’s parents were taken away by officers on the scene. Police have not commented on the nature of the investigation, but initial reports allege the baby had fallen out of bed. – Georgia Simpson
