The #KylieJennerLipChallenge caused a social media storm, with many people trying to replicate the socialite’s plumper lips.
When young reality TV star and sibling of Kim Kardashian took to social media with bigger lips, the internet almost crumbled with the efforts of many trying to replicate the look. Kylie Jenner told The Daily Mail UK that she had not received any cosmetic enhancements to her lips and attributed her look to a variety of lip-plumping procedures. After that, a dangerous trend emerged in which teens attempted to plump their lips without surgery, many injuring and even disfiguring themselves in the process. The results were shared with the hashtag #KylieJennerChallenge, and the hashtag has been used over 52,000 times on Instagram alone.
Among the posts were these horrors:
“The new trend in trying to DIY lip plumping is quite concerning,” Dr Dendy Engelman, a New York surgeon, told Seventeen.com.
“Not only can significant pain, swelling, and bruising result from these suction techniques, but there is potential risk for scarring and permanent disfigurement with repeated attempts.”
The 17-year-old Keeping Up With The Kardashians star
has spoken out about the so-called #KylieJennerChallenge. Jenner tweeted, “I’m not here to try & encourage people/young girls to look like me or to think this is the way they should look.”
“I want to encourage people/young girls like me to be YOURSELF & not be afraid to experiment with your look.”
The socialite’s has since confirmed that she had cosmetic work done on her lips, while many of us have resorted to playing it safe, by using lip liner and lip-plumping products. Just don’t try to achieve these plumper looking lips by grabbing a shot glass, placing it over your lips, and sucking. The results are horrifying. – Kyanah Lawson
