What happened to Justin’s face, why Ed Sheeran is being dragged through the courts, and who Barack Obama is backing in the upcoming election.
The internet is on fire with news that Ed Sheeran is being sued for $20 million for his hit song Photograph. Songwriters Martin Harrington and Thomas Leonard claim Ed Sheeran and co-writer Johnny McDaid copied their song Amazing note for note.
The names Harrington and Leonard may not ring a bell straight away but they have co-written a number of hit celebrity songs including Kylie Minogue’s Love at First Sight as well as songs by the Backstreet Boys, Celine Dion and Natalie Imbruglia. The lawsuit includes evidence of the note-for-note copying, however it takes more than that to prove plagiarism. The song must copy the same genre, give the same feeling and be noticeably similar.
As songwriter Midge Ure said on UK program The One Show, “There are only so many notes… Ed Sheeran does not need to plagiarise someone else’s song.”
And the people of Twitter have chimed in as well…
I don’t get why Ed Sheeran wanted to rip off a song that wasn’t that great in the first place. It’s like stealing from Poundland

Ed Sheeran’s “Photograph” came out in 2013, why is it only just being considered copyright theft? It’s a bit late to realise isn’t it…

What do you think? Check out the two songs below.
Justin Bieber has been knocked down after a brawl broke out near his downtown Cleveland hotel last night. The footage was Snapchatted by a by-stander and sent to TMZ. It shows Biebs arcing up at a guy who is at least 6ft 5.
Bieber followed up the brawl by posting a photo on Instagram showing a rather swollen lip. Come on Biebs, we know you’ve made a huge transition of late from innocent boy on YouTube to tough guy, but maybe stay away from people twice your size.
President Barrack Obama has used social media to openly announced his support for Hillary Clinton in the upcoming US election. Now that Clinton has won her spot as the “presumptive democratic nominee for President of the United States” Obama has finally been able to use one of his favourite media platforms to show his support for her.
The video came out on Clinton’s YouTube channel this morning and shows a very united party. “I’m with her,” Obama says. “I am fired up and I cannot wait to get out there and campaign for Hillary.”
Yes, we are fired up too. Bring on November…
For those of you with Androids, a new feature has been released called “Nearby” which basically notifies you of apps and websites that could be useful given your location.
Last month Google introduced the concept of Instant Apps, a way of breaking down apps to give you just the part you need. But we all know technology isn’t perfect, and doesn’t always know exactly what we need to use. Which is essentially what has led to this new feature for Androids.
And don’t forget to add #LongWeekend to your upcoming tweets, with the hashtag already topping the trending list in the lead up to the Queen’s Birthday long weekend!
Don’t party too hard guys – but if you do, don’t forget to post it to your social media accounts. 😉 – Kezia Hopperus Buma
