The Golden State Warriors have broken the NBA record for most wins in a season by defeating the Memphis Grizzlies 125-104 in their final game.
The Warriors finished with 73-9, surpassing the 72-win record held by Michael Jordan’s 1995-96 Chicago Bulls in front of a packed Oracle Arena, Oakland. Point guard Stephen Curry became the only player in NBA history to score over 400 three-pointers in a season, shattering his own record of 286 last season. Curry scored 46 points to finish the regular season in style and state his case to be the NBA MVP for the second straight year.
With the playoffs on the horizon, the Warriors have all the momentum and look on track to win back-to-back NBA titles.
Michael Jordan was all praise for the Warriors post-match.
“I want to congratulate the Warriors on their amazing season,” Jordan said. “The game of basketball is always evolving and records are made to be broken. The Warriors have been a lot of fun to watch and I look forward to seeing what they do in the playoffs.”
