GWS player Lachie Whitfield will be unable to play until Round 8 of the 2017 AFL season.
In 2015, Graeme Allan and Craig Lambert organised for Whitfield to stay at Lambert’s house overnight, and it’s believed it was to avoid drug testers.
Allan had already organised to become the Director of Football at Collingwood and now leaves them with Marcus Wagner in the role as an interim manager, following Allan’s resignation yesterday.
‘’Regardless of my good intentions, I should have handled the issues differently and ensured Lachie continued to meet his off-field ‘whereabouts’ obligations at all times,’’ Allan told AFL.com.au.
Whitfield has apologised to all involved at the Giants; ‘’I sincerely apologise to my teammates, coaches and our supporters. I love playing for the Giants and I am determined to repay the faith and loyalty they’ve shown in me.’’
Whitfield will most likely return as soon as available in Round 8, against a team they’ve yet to beat in their short history, the Collingwood Magpies. – Paul Robinson
