Sex abuse charges against ageing pop-star dismissed
Allegations against Sir Cliff Richard of sexual abuse have been dismissed by the Crown Prosecuting Service (CPS) for lack of evidence. Responding to the news Sir Cliff damned South Yorkshire Police for tarnishing his reputation. In a statement on the singer’s web page he said: “I was named before I was even interviewed and for me that was like being hung out like “live bait”. It is obvious that such strategies simply increase the risk of attracting spurious claims which not only tie up police resources and waste public funds, but forever tarnish the reputations of innocent people.”
An announcement on the CPS web site does not mention Sir Cliff by name but simply states “The Crown Prosecution Service has decided that no further action should be taken against a 75-year-old man who was investigated by South Yorkshire Police for allegations of non-recent sexual abuse.”
