The English transfer window is up-and-running as managers start to make signings to improve on the previous season.
Lallana switches to Liverpool
Liverpool have signed Southampton captain Adam Lallana after the Saints accepted a £25m deal for the English international. Lallana is the third signing for Brendan Rodgers who also signed fellow Southampton forward, Rickie Lambert and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, Emre Can. However controversial attacker Luis Suarez is being linked with a move to Spanish giants Barcelona.
Costa move imminent
Chelsea have reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid forward, Diego Costa. In a short statement on the club’s website, it was confirmed that Costa’s £32.5 million buy-out clause has been triggered. Jose Mourinho has already signed Spanish midfielder, Cesc Fabregas and is reportedly eyeing off Costa’s Atletico Madrid teammates, Felipe and Tiago. Madrid manager Diego Simeone is looking at Alvaro Negredo and Romelu Lukaku as possible replacements for the man who scored 36 goals in all competitions last season.
Newcastle hit de Jong for six
Newcastle United have signed Ajax attacker Siem de Jong on a six-year deal worth £6 million. de Jong scored seven goals for the Dutch champions last season and is looking to boost the Toon’s attack that missed out on French striker Batetimbi Gomis who signed for Swansea City last week.
Lampard joins Melbourne City
The revolution at A-League club, Melbourne City has continued with the announcement that former Chelsea midfielder, Frank Lampard will play a 10-match guest stint before moving to the MLS to play with sister club, New York City. Lampard, who played in the 2014 World Cup, joins David Villa and former Chelsea teammate Damien Duff at the Australian club who finished last in the 2013/14 season. – Chris Matthews-Darby
