A Doctor Who pop-up shop has arrived in Sydney in preparation of the World Tour, stopping by the state’s capital on Tuesday.
Located on the corner of World Square in Sydney’s CBD, the pop-up shop has attracted fans from all over the city and NSW.
Whovians will have the opportunity to splurge their money on various Who related items, from sonic screwdriver pens to Doctor Who inspired posters, for the next five weeks.
Emma Pond, who works at the pop-up shop, told The Newsroom she expects business to pick up over the next few days.
“It hasn’t gotten really busy yet because I think not that many people knew about it to start with.
“We’re expecting a lot of people to come in this weekend,” she said.
The deceptively large store, which would reflect on the famous tagline “It’s bigger on the inside”, houses a varied Doctor Who-inspired range, from t-shirts and fancy dress costumes to board games, and even rubbish bins that emit the famous TARDIS noise when garbage is thrown into it.
“It’s been quiet so far but we’re expecting to get a lot of people in,” Emma told The Newsroom.
The Doctor Who World Tour will touchdown in Sydney on Tuesday, and will feature the Twelfth Doctor (played by Peter Capaldi) and his companion Clara Oswald (played by Jenna Coleman). It is the only Australian city to be featured in the tour.
The new season of the revamped Doctor Who series will premiere its first episode in late August and fans in attendance of the World Tour will have the opportunity to view the episode before anyone else. – Noah La’ulu and Naomi Winner
