AFL legend Billy Brownless is being hailed as brave and classy on social media after his interview on the AFL Footy Show, Channel 9.
Brownless opened up about the relationship between his good friend and co-host Gary Lyons, and ex-wife Nicky Brownless.
The AFL legend admitted in the live interview last night that his “initial feelings were like anyone else out there, you get angry”.
“We have been good mates for a long time and that’s what hurts you the most,” Brownless said. “You don’t touch a man’s wallet, you don’t touch a man’s wife.”
Social media users have come out in support of Brownless:

However, some people disliked the way Brownless was grilled by the interviewers, and how he responded:

The footy world has come out in support of Brownless, with Eddie McGuire and ex-Melbourne forward David Schwarz congratulating Brownless for his insight and composure.
“Well done to Bill, well done because he could have teed off and had a lot of venom and anger built up inside him,” Schwarz said on SEN radio.
Even though Brownless and his wife had split before the relationship with Gary Lyons started, Brownless admitted he had not spoken to Lyons since he found out about the relationship.
Lyons, who is suffering depression, was absent from the show last night. He has stood down indefinitely from his work commitments with the AFL Footy Show, The Age newspaper and Channel 9’s Footy Classified. – Peter Moon
