Melbourne Storm and Queensland fullback Billy Slater will require surgery to find out the full extent of damage done to his injured shoulder.
It is unknown how much of the NRL season Slater will miss, but reports suggest he will spend 6 to 8 months on the sidelines.
Slater was just one game into this season before saying his shoulder was sore the week after his side’s victory over the Dragons. There are fears of it being the same injury which made him miss the latter half of last season.
Melbourne Storm are expected to replace Slater with young gun Cameron Munster, who proved he is more than capable of taking the fullback mantle for Melbourne Storm with his performance filling in for Slater last season.
Although Munster has shown he is a worthy replacement, Melbourne Storm has lost a major asset in their 2016 campaign. They will play the Warriors in Auckland in round 3 this week. – James Wardell
