The business lobby group WeLoveKingsX launched a new campaign today in a final bid to defeat NSW liquor law reforms.
The proposed laws go before the Upper House next week. If passed, they will go into operation on December 1.
WeLoveKingsX is made up of local businesses opposed to the reforms. The group said “November Intensive” is its last chance to tell the state government that it “rejects their crazy, heavy-handed laws and the way they’ve gone about giving themselves these powers with little debate or conversation”.
“We all agree that action needs to be taken to fix the problem on the streets, but these measures won’t do that. They just go too far, may cost our jobs and close down our favourite restaurants, bars and clubs,” the group’s website said.
Danielle Ecuyer, a member of the Waverley Council alcohol sub-committee has dismissed the reforms as little more than Band-Aid measures against alcohol-fuelled violence. She said the plan won’t work and we need look no further than Newcastle for inspiration on how to reduce violence in the Cross. – Emily Olive
