A Cairo court has sentenced the ousted Egyptian president, Mohamed Morsi, on charges of fomenting violence.
The former leader and 12 supporters were convicted on Tuesday for ordering the arrest and torture of protesters outside the presidential palace in December 2012. Morsi was acquitted of murder charges that carried a death penalty. Since Morsi lost the presidency, authorities have banned his Muslim Brotherhood and arrested thousands of his supporters. The verdict marks the end of just one of many trials Morsi faces.
Al-Baghdadi ‘wounded in air-strike’
ISIS leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, has reportedly been seriously injured from air-strikes conducted in Western Iraq. Sources have told The Guardian that Baghdadi sustained serious injuries due to a US led attack. Baghdadi’s injuries led to the belief that he would die, leaving ISIS leaders to make huge plans about his replacement.

Earth Day was marked today by millions around the world who hope to sustain a clear and healthy environment. This year, scientists have urged world leaders to uphold their commitments to avoid dangerous climate change. The Earth League has encouraged governments to adopt a carbon tax in the hopes of reducing net carbon emissions to zero by the mid-century. In a statement, the environmental group said three-quarters of known fossil fuel reserves should be left in the ground if global warming was not to breach 2C, the safety limit acknowledged by most governments in a non-binding agreement.
100-carat diamond sells for $22.1 million
A 100-carat diamond has sold at a New York City auction for $US22.1 million – $28.45 million Australian. The huge diamond was mined by De Beers in southern Africa and was purchased by an anonymous buyer via telephone bid.
