Cricket NSW has confirmed that Australian batsman Shane Watson will miss Sunday’s Matador Cup Final due to injury.
During a training session on Tuesday, Watson injured his left calf. Cricket NSW said Watson would be fit and ready for the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL), beginning December 17.
Despite announcing his retirement from test cricket earlier this year, Watson remains a big part of Australia’s short form squad. He will be eager to bounce back and impress in the BBL, with an eye on the upcoming Trans-Tasman series.
Watson carried over his shaky bat form in the Matador Cup as well. He scored 12,13, 25 not out, and 18 before notching a solid 64 in his side’s win over Victoria last week. NSW topped the leader board and will play host to the winner of tomorrow’s elimination final between Victoria and South Australia.
Watson wasn’t the only Australian player hitting some spring form, with pace-man Mitchell Johnson also finding his touch.
