With summer approaching we’re all getting very excited for our summer festivals!
It seems that everyday we’re getting a new line up released for yet another amazing summer festival, but now comes the hard part… deciding just which ones to go to.
The Newsroom has compiled all the information you need to help you decide.
First in this list of fantastic festivals comes the ones we all know and hear about pretty much all year round.
The Falls Music and Arts Festival, or more commonly known as Falls Festival runs between December 28 – January 3. Held in three prime locations Marion Bay in Tasmania, Lorne in Victoria and Byron Bay in NSW. The tickets costs between $230 and $365. It may seem pricey, but these prices are certainly worth it for artists such as Alison Wonderland, Run The Jewels, SBTRKT, Tycho, John Butler Trio, Glass Animals and so many others.
Stereosonic is a big time festival that occurs all over Australia including Sydney on November 29 and 30, Perth on November 29 and 30, Adelaide on Decmebr 5 and 6, Mebourne on December 6 and 7 and Brisbane on Decmeber 6 and 7. The ticket prices for Steriosonic range from between $140 and $240. Most of the artists attending Steriosonic you surely would have heard of by now, unless you live under a rock. Skrillex, Disclosure, Peking Duk, Cash Cash, Nina Las Vegas and Carl Cox are just a few of the talented lovelies who will grace the stages of Steriosonic.
Soundwave is another major festival that focuses mostly on metal, punk, hardcore and pop punk genres. Held all over Australia including Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Adelaide and Perth this festival is sure to please with artists such as Slipknot, Faith No More, Sound Garden, Marilyn Manson and so many others. To top it off, ticket prices begin at $130 and $200.
Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane get to be the luckiest places in Australia to hold this year’s St Jerome’s Laneway Festival on February 1. The stages will be graced with artists such as Andy Bull, Caribou, Eves, Jon Hopkins and many others.
Now we take a step into the future! Future Music Festival will run on February 28 – March 9 New South Wales, Western Australia, Queensland, South Australia and Victoria. Drake, Avicii, Nero, Example, 2 Chainz and many other artists will be performing at Future and with tickets only priced around $130 it’s no wonder they sell out each year.
Featuring artists such as Violent Soho, Pearl Jam, Arcade Fire, Snoop Dogg AKA Snoop Lion, Flume, Tame Impala and many others and with tickets priced between $185 and $285 it’s sure to be a BIG festival – Big Day Out! January 26 is the big day to go out to this festival and the fact that it’s happening in Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Adelaide and Perth makes it just that much easier to get to.
Now with all this excitement we mustn’t forget good ol’ Aunty Meredith who provides us each year with the wonderful Meredith Festival in Victoria. Starting on December 12 and continuing until December 14 the tickets are usually around $300. The artists perfectly selected by Aunty Meredith for this year consist of The War on Drugs, Tiny Ruins, Silence Wedge, De La Soul and so many amazing others. As one of the countries oldest festivals we’re all ecstatic that it’s still kickin’ on.
Now if you’re strapped for cash or would prefer not to attend the massive festivals there are some other not so heard of festivals that you should have a look at.
Sugar Mountain festival in Victoria will be on January 24 and costs between $135 and $200. Headlining Sugar Mountain is Nas, preforming his song illmatic. Along with Nas there are many others including ghost patrol, Chela, Horse Meat Disco, Odesza and many others.
Jam Grass in Victoria is another festival to attend. From October 31 to November 2 the tickets are sweetly priced between $30 and $95, and with artists such as Willow Darling, Mustered Courage, the Ramblin’ Roses, Raised By Eagles, Perch Creek and many others, you definitely don’t want to miss it.
So Frenchy So Chic In The Park presents Emilie Simon, La Femme and Francois, the Atlas Mountains and many others in Sydney on January 17 and Melbourne on January 11. With tickets only priced at $89 and free entry for children under 12, it’s sure to be a cheaper festival option.
The Australasian World Music Expo is happening in Melbourne on November 13 – 16. Its quaint and cultural and excitingly only costs between $180 and $280 Ash Grunwald, Bullhorn, Benny Walker, DJ Ms Butt, Frank Yamma and many others.
Strawberry Fields is yet another indie festival in Victoria and priced between $150 and $300. Strawberry Fields will play host to many different artists such as Giraffage, Ame, Neelix, Young Magic and so many others.
From November 28 – 30 Melbourne will be hosting Queenscliff Festival. With tickets costing between $45 and $450 it’s no wonder that fantastic musicians Archer, Aine Tyrrell, Aluka and many others.
The small town of Gulgong near Mudgee also has it’s own festival. The Gulgong Folk Festival held on December 27 and 28 is a quaint festival. Unfortunately the list of artists hasn’t yet been released for this festival but last years festival had guests such as Brothers 3, Fig Jam, Hobo Grace, String Theory and many others.
Moshtix yearly state of the industry report for 2013 was released with all the information on just how many people who are signed up to Moshtix actually attend Australia’s wonderful festivals.
Some of the results explain just how many Moshtix customers are devoted music festivals goers. The results being that 45 per cent of Moshtix customers have attended 4 or more festivals in the last two years. There are also estimates that one in five customers will increase their festival attendance in the next 12 months.
