Poverty affects more than a million Australians. In 2012 alone, 13.9 per cent of Australians lived below the poverty line. The Newsroom’s photographic team set out to record the reality of life on the margins of our society, the faces of Australia’s forgotten people, the citizens who fell through the cracks.
Anti-Poverty week gives us a chance to change the way that society perceives this worldwide problem. By working together as one, we can help to change the face of poverty one step at a time. Anti-Poverty week aims to strengthen the public’s understanding of the causes and consequences of poverty and hardship, bot in Australia and around the world.
