Sydney Swans captain Jarrad McVeigh says his team is confident of victory when they tackle Hawthorn in Saturday’s grand final.
The co-captain fronted the media this morning prior to their last training session before leaving for Melbourne later today.
McVeigh is expecting a close affair with both sides on winning runs and with one win each in their two clashes including the Hawks ending Sydney’s 12-match-winning-streak in Round 18.
When asked how they would approach the game, McVeigh responded that his men have the confidence in themselves to take out the biggest match of the year.
“The first couple of games [against Hawthorn] was all about them and how they do things but now it’s about us and how we can counteract that because we’re always confident about how we play.”
The Pennant Hills junior told 1116SEN he is not expecting anything surprising from either side despite Hawthorn’s potential x-factor Cyril Rioli still in doubt to play.
“Both teams know what we’re gonna do so there aren’t going to be any surprises, it’ll come down to who performs better on the day.”
McVeigh will be taking part in his third grand final since his debut in 2004, being in an losing effort in 2006 before defeating Hawthorn by ten points in 2012. – Chris Matthews-Darby
