We all fantasise how great life would be if we won millions.
But last months lucky lottery winner, who won a $US450 million jackpot, says he just wants his old simple life back.
“Wild” Willie Seeley shared the Powerball jackpot win with 15 co-workers. The former warehouse manager from New Jersey has told the media he now wishes he could “disappear”.
“There are days I wish we were back to just getting paid every two weeks,” he told NBC News.
Mr Seeley turned down a number of interviews and reality TV shows, including Ryan Seacrest Productions and National Geographic. Strangers claiming to be his relatives also came out of the woodwork.
“I pulled a .357 magnum on the last fellow who came walking up the driveway,” he said.
Donna, Mr Seeley’s wife, called their winnings a curse, but recognises the money helped pay their mortgage, and re-roof their home ravaged by Hurricane Sandy. The couple quit their jobs and bought two cars. It also helped support Mr Seeley’s father, who is battling cancer and is onto his second round of chemotherapy.
“I just told him, you don’t have to worry about nothing financially except getting healthy and beating cancer,” he said.
Mr Seeley lost his mother to cancer earlier this month.
It may be a happy ending after all for the Seeleys, who have used some of the cash to buy a remote cabin, where they can now escape the hype and their never-ending line of long lost relatives. – Jacquellene Boateng
