Six Australians confirmed dead in Laos plane crash overnight.
Flying from capital Vientiane to Pakse, LAO Airline was carrying 44 passengers and five crew members before plummeting into the Mekong River.
Laos official Sek Wannamethee told AFP, “I can now confirm, according to our reports, that all 44 people on board have died.”
Thailand newspaper Bangkok Post reported that the plane went down after hitting bad weather close to Pakse airport.
National television showed images of the plane submerged in the shallow water. This is the second crash in the last decade for the south east asian airline. – Sam Ottley
