Luke Pomersbach (above) has quit professional cricket due to depression. The 29-year-old Western Australian, who played for Queensland and Brisbane Heat, had a good season, averaging 53.87 in the Sheffield Shield. He was player of the year for Brisbane Heat in the 2012-13 season but he will be unable to continue this summer, Queensland Cricket announced.
In a statement in the Queensland Cricket website, Geoff Cockerill, the Queensland Cricket chief executive, said Luke will be given practical and financial help.
“We appreciate the difficulties and challenges that Luke faces with his illness. The most important thing is that Luke continues to receive the necessary treatment and has the best possible support available to him,” he said.
