Coogee photographer found safe
Sydney mother Jessica Bialek has returned home after disappearing from her Coogee property on Wednesday morning. The 37-year-old accomplished photographer arrived home just before 6:30pm on Thursday after a police search and social media pleas from her husband, Sabino Matera. Mr Matera broke the news on Facebook, posting: “Jessica Bialek is safe and at home. Found. Thank You.” He also thanked the police, mothers and the Jewish community for their prayers, support and help. It is still unclear why Ms Bialek, who has a two-year-old daughter, went missing after making a quick trip to an ATM.
Mother released after children killed in Melbourne lake crash
The mother of the three children killed in a car that crashed into a Wyndham Vale lake has been released from police custody. Homicide detectives questioned the 35-year-old woman, Akon Guode, who drove the car that crashed into the lake in Melbourne’s west yesterday, killing her one-year-old son Bol, and four-year-old twins, Madit and Anger. No charges have been laid against Ms Guode and police are continuing the investigation. Ms Guode’s partner and father to the four children, Joseph Manyang, made a statement regarding his wife’s involvement in the crash: “My message to the community – because there is a lot of talking around, there is untruths – what I can tell them is they have to wait for the report from the police investigation, that will be the truth.” The couple’s five-year-old daughter, Awel, still remains in hospital in a critical condition.
Child-bride’s father taken into custody
A NSW man charged with arranging the marriage of his 12-year-old daughter has had his bail revoked. The father was found guilty of setting up the January marriage to a 26-year-old man, as well as procuring a child for sex. The 63-year-old pensioner’s sentencing will commence on May 29. His lawyer, Mario Licha, argued that, if granted bail, his client would have no reason to run from authorities due to financial difficulties. “There’s nothing to show he will slip the jurisdiction,” Mr Licha said. The judge determined the man should await his sentencing in custody. – Compiled from web sources by Jacinta Scott
