An 18-year-old jogger has gone missing in the One Tree Hill area of Bendigo.
Emma Langworthy was last seen at 3pm Wednesday afternoon going for a jog after texting a friend, but has not been sited since.
She was last seen wearing black tights, white runners and socks, and a light grey/purple top.
“Emergency services will recommence the search for a missing jogger in the One Tree Hill area today,” Victorian Police Officer Belinda Batty said in a statement.
“Police, Air Wing and K-9 will be assisted by SES and volunteers as the search continues this morning. Police have released a photo of Emma in the hope that someone may have seen her.”
Victoria Police have been using 4WDs, dirt bikes and a helicopter in their desperate search for Ms Langworthy.
The police air wing, dog squad and SES crews spent last night searching the area for the La Trobe University student, with efforts continuing early hours this morning.
Wayne Mannix, a local resident who works at the One Tree Hill Hotel in Spring Gullysaid that the disappearance was a rare and shocking occurrence within the community.
“We can see the lookout tower from here just up the road; it’s essentially bush. It’s a big university area,” Mr Mannix told The Newsroom. “The road that goes over the top of One Tree Hill is closed to cars, and a lot of the activity has seemed to have stopped within the last half hour. There’s no more helicopters, and a lot of 4WD police cars are heading back into Bendigo.
“There’s a lot of joggers in the area; this side of town is sort of a lot of university students. We get a lot in the hotel here, so we see a lot of activities like jogging happening.”
Temperatures last night dropped to minus one degree in the Bendigo area according to the weather bureau, making the search more difficult.
Police ask that members of the public avoid the area as it may hamper the search at this stage.
