An elbow injury has stopped tennis world number one and China Open defending champion Novak Djokovic from competing in Beijing.
The six-time champion in Beijing last played in the US Open and was beaten humbly by Stan Wawrinka in the memorable final. It is an unfortunate turn of events because as of late Djokovic has struggled to claim a victory since he was defeated at Wimbledon this year.
This year there will be a new men’s champion and all eyes now will be on Olympic gold medallist Andy Murray.
Djokovic told media that he is gutted that he won’t be able to grace the court and defend his title.
‘’I am extremely disappointed not to be able to compete at the China Open this year’’, said Djokovic, who is next scheduled to play at the Shanghai Masters starting October 10. I’m still recovering from my injury and have been advised not to play until my condition improves,” Djokovic said.
