Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst closed Jean Paul Gaultier’s haute couture show at Paris fashion week.
Gaultier had nothing but praise for the bearded Austrian transvestite, saying: “She is bringing a new genre – a man with a beard with… virility, but a great femininity. It’s an incredible mix. It’s an act of courage and beauty to live her life the way she wants to live it.”
Conchita followed the footsteps of Dita Von Teese and Madonna in closing a Jean Paul Gaultier show – she wore a vampire-themed gown with black, red and gold accents, and a black veil draped down her hair.
Gaultier’s looks for the Autumn-Winter 14/15 collection included a black transparent dress, detailed with enough red Swarovski crystals to protect the model’s modesty. The dress earned him a round of applause.
The designer told reporters after the show that he had tried to reduce his usual use of colour.
“I did the black because of the black darkness etcetera, the white because of the innocence, of course a cliché, [and] the blood of course [was] the red,” Gaultier said.
