It’s time you step out of your comfort zone.
When it comes to makeup, we all usually have a tried and tested look that we always go for. Whether it’s winged liner or red lipstick, over the many years of wearing makeup, we develop our own signature look. While we all have our favourite makeup looks, the last thing you want to be regretting while on your deathbed is not taking enough risks in your makeup. So here are the beauty risks to take before you die:
Black lipstick
Not favoured by many, black lipstick isn’t exactly the most versatile shade to wear. While it might not be appropriate to wear to work or a job interview, black lipstick is perfect for a night out into town with your girlfriends. “A dark lip is a powerful, impactful look, with genuine retro appeal,” told MAC Cosmetics Senior Artist Caitlin Callahan in an exclusive interview with Yahoo Shine, “In the ’90s, we partnered our dark lips with everything but the kitchen sink: full-coverage matte foundation, false lashes, [bold] eyes and cheeks. What makes a dark lip modern is keeping everything else healthy-looking and natural.” Not only will black lipstick get you noticed, but you can bet that there won’t be many girls sporting the same look as you.
Take a bath in milk
Yeah, you read that right. If Cleopatra can do it, then so can we. “Milk contains lactic acid, and alpha hydroxy acid, which aids in exfoliation. It helps soften and break up the ‘glue’ that holds rough, dead skin cells together,” says Brianna, a holistic esthician from Nabele Skincare, “Milk also contains beneficial lipids, proteins and vitamins that moisturise and nurture the skin, leaving it feeling soft and smooth.” BRB, going to fill my bathtub with milk right now, wait….how much milk would we need again? “It can be as simple as adding two cups of almost any milk to a warm bath,” says Brianna.
Wear fluoro makeup
Fluoro or neon makeup isn’t only for your 12 year old sister, if worn correctly, it can really transform your look in a good way. “Try a bright blue or purple shadow as a liner, but keep the rest of the face natural,” tells makeup artist Toby Fleischman to Glo.msn.com. In short, go crazy with fluoro, but only focus on one part of your face at a time. If you’re not brave enough to rock bright makeup, then do baby steps. Start off with your blush, then move onto the lips, and then before you know it, you’ll be rocking blue winged liner in no time!
Go out with graphic eyeliner
We love the wing liner. It’s classic, sexy, and adds allure to our look. But it’s time to step it up a notch, and rock some serious graphic eyeliner. “Anyone can wear graphic eyeliner, whether you have hooded eyes, or a more mature eyelid, whatever your eye shape, it’s all about confidence really,” says Lisa Eldridge, celebrity makeup artist. Let it be geometric, drawn on, or completely crazy, graphic liner is all the rage these days. Here’s a guide by the talented Lisa Eldridge on how to wear graphic liner.
Go sans makeup
Yep, perhaps one of the biggest beauty risks of all. No, I’m not talking about “no-makeup-makeup”, I’m talking about zero makeup. Zilch. Nada. While makeup is an amazing tool to help make us feel our best, it’s time we felt good in our skin, without the need of a full coverage foundation. – Basmah Qazi
