The Hyundai A-League barely makes the top 100 world football leagues.
The International Federation of Football History and Statistics has ranked the Australian A-League 99th in the world.
Spain’s first division La Liga ranked number one followed by the English Premier League and the German Bundesliga.
The A-League has fallen 47 places from 52nd last year and now lies behind Zimbabwe, Congo and Zambia.
The A-League can gain a higher ranking if Central Coast Mariners, Western Sydney Wanderers, and Melbourne Victory exceed the efforts of last year’s A-League teams in the AFC Champions League.
Football fans were divided on the league’s standings with @oknermin saying on Twitter “any list that tops La Liga is written by morons”. – Lyndon Hall
