With less than a month until we bid 2015 farewell, it’s time to reflect on what we’ve achieved, what we’ve learnt, and of course, what went viral.
Considering almost everyone has a Twitter, Facebook and Instagram account, it would be appropriate to take a look back at some of this year’s internet memes, trends, and videos, and give some honourable (or dishonourable) mentions.
1. #TheDress
It’s the dress that divided families, couples and nations. Yes, I’m talking about this:
So did we ever find out if the dress is black and blue or gold and white?
2. #mmmfreestyle
People started posting online their freestyle raps under #mmmfreestyle. Not the most popular, but grabbed enough attention that it became a trending hashtag back in April.
3. Netflix and Chill
“Netflix and chill” became so popular (and still is) it resulted in countless internet memes being made based off the phrase:
And if it isn’t obvious enough, “Netflix and chill” is widely known as really meaning “come over for sexual purposes with Netflix playing in the background”.
4. #KylieJennerLipChallenge
Before 18-year-old Kylie Jenner made public that she has been using lip fillers to make her lips appear more plump, many had theories on how they became so big. Some suggested excessive make-up but others had a another idea: swelling. The method was simple, use a cup to create an airlock around the lips, which forces them to swell. People posted their results online and the results were a shocker.
5. #DeezNuts
Need we say more?

6. Facebook’s rainbow profile pictures
This massive Facebook trend saw users changing their profile picture with the filter of the rainbow flag in support of same-sex marriage.
7. If you’re reading this …
Rapper Drake dropped his latest album titled “If you’re reading this its too late” in February and many people took it and made it their own.
8. Straight Outta Somewhere
Similar to number seven, when the film “Straight Outta Compton” was released worldwide, many took the film’s promotion banner:
and made it into their own.
9. “Why you always lyin’?”
This year gave us a new way to call out someone if they’re lying. Just send this photo and they’ll get it straight away.
And if they’re still confused, make them watch the viral video in its glory:
10. “What are those?!”
The internet this year also presented a new way to point out someone’s horrible shoe choices.
11. #WatchMe
The song that started a dance craze as big as Gangnam Style. Don’t worry, there’s still time to learn how to whip and nae nae before this year is over.
12. John Cena!
Superstar wrestler John Cena became famous for something other than his wrestling moves this year, when his WWE introduction was added onto the end of random videos in order to catch the viewer off guard. And they have been pretty damn hilarious.
13. Hotline Bling
Drake makes this list a second time, this time for his Hotline Bling music video that has received a lot of attention, remakes and parodies that are a good laugh.

14. Just Do It
If you ever required motivation this year, all you needed to do it watch this before following your dreams.
